ABOUT

We wanted the sports argument to be fun again.

Published by A-Squad · Updated September 2026
Every hockey fan has had the argument. Who are your six? Which goalie, which era, would that Bruins blue line hold up today, and would that Oilers power play even need a blue line? A-Squad is a way to have that argument with a scoreboard attached, with friends, for free, in a browser.

Who we are

A-Squad is made by A-Squad Gaming LLC, a Missouri limited liability company. We are a small company of hockey fans who also happen to build software, and the people who answer the support mailbox are the same people who built the game. We are not a studio with a publishing arm, and we are not affiliated with the NHL or any of its clubs.
You can reach us at support@asquadgame.com. The contact page says what to include so we can actually help.

Why we built it

In 2026 a wave of spin-and-draft games proved something we already believed: the loop of random team, random era, pick one player, six times, then find out how the season goes, is about as good as a sports game loop gets. It is fast, it is fair to people who know their history, and it produces a squad you want to show someone.
It also wore thin fast, and for the same reasons every time. Re-spins pushed behind ads. A “one-on-one” that was really you against a bot. A verdict with no explanation of why your six Hall of Famers went 41-41-2. Leaderboards that rewarded whoever ground out the most attempts. A sign-in wall before the first spin. No history, so last week’s squad was simply gone.
We thought the loop deserved better than that, so we built the version we wanted to play, and then we wrote down the promises that make it different so you can hold us to them.

What “more fun and social” means to us

Six commitments, each one tied to something already in the game rather than on a roadmap.
You play against people you know. A challenge code hands a friend your exact six spins. They get one official try, you both land on the same board, and the argument is settled with the same cards in the same order.
Everyone gets the same daily. One set of six spins for the whole world at 9:00 ET, one ranked attempt each. The daily board measures drafting and nothing else.
Re-spins are never behind an ad. Every run comes with a free team re-spin and a free era re-spin, and no ad ever stands between you and either of them.
Coins are earned, never bought, and never touch a ranked run. They buy extra re-rolls in unranked play only, and a run that used one is marked and stays off the boards. There is nothing to purchase anywhere in A-Squad.
You can see why. Every result shows how many wins each of your six picks added or cost, which slot was the weakest link, and how your record compares. A number you cannot interrogate is not a result, it is a slot machine.
Play first, sign in later, or never. The whole game works as a guest. An account exists so your history, streaks and coins can follow you across devices, not so we can put a wall in front of the first spin.

Honest about what it is

The season your squad posts is a projection, not a prediction. It comes from a statistical model built only from public box-score statistics, with every player read against how the league scored in their own season so a 1955 Red Wing and a 1985 Oiler can share a roster fairly. We checked the model against more than 1,750 real NHL team seasons before we let it judge yours. It is entertainment, it is meant to start arguments rather than end them, and a perfect season is possible but rare on purpose. The how it works page walks through the whole thing.

What it is not

A-Squad is not affiliated with the NHL, its clubs, the NHLPA or the NHL Alumni Association. Player names and statistics are facts of the public record, and that is all we use. You will not find team logos or player photos here, and the paper-and-ink look of the game is our deliberate answer to that constraint: a print shop from the Original Six years rather than a broadcast graphic.
It is not gambling. Nothing costs money, nothing pays out, and coins have no cash value. It is not in the app stores yet either: native apps are coming, and until then the web version works on any phone.

How it stays free

Advertising pays for the servers, the data pipeline and the domain. There is no paid tier and nothing to buy, and we would rather keep it that way than sell an advantage. If you run an ad blocker, that is fine; we do not detect it and nothing in the game is gated behind an ad. Our privacy policy explains plainly what our advertising partners receive and how to say no to personalized ads.
